Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

31 Oct 2023Walked this late October Eastwards from Sturminster Marshall to Wimborne. The first thing I would say is that if you want to walk this route then don't park in Sturminster as that will leave you with a walk along a fairly busy and fast B road with no verge - it's just too risky and unpleasant. Instead, park in the National Trust car park (free) at White Mill, just to the North of Sturminster Marshall. Or, do it the opposite way but then it might be a bit harder getting a taxi back to Wimborne.
The route is pretty muddy for the first bit until you get to higher ground at the border with Kington Lacy Park. This is a pleasant bit of the walk. From there you take a country lane before turning onto a green road 'All Fools Lane which brings you out at Pamphill Green. After this, once more onto a quite country lane before rejoining the river Stour and a bit more mud before the path turns into more of a well maintained footpath to Julians Bridge. The last bit is labelled as allotments on the OS map but is now a new housing estate called 'Rivers Edge'.
Turn left to head into Wimborne along a busy road with a narrow footpath. A fitting end is the Green Man pub at the first roundabout or you can carry on into the town centre and the Wimborne Minster itself.
A taxi back to Sturminster Marshall is about £16 with a local taxi firm or around £9 with Uber.
