Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

01 Aug 2022Great route between St Austell and St Blazey. Easy to navigate along the streets of St Austell, quiet lanes and obvious footpaths. The only issue I encountered was a fallen tree across the footpath at one point - which was easy enough to duck under, but would have been a problem when my back was worse.
Other than that, definitely worthy of inclusion in the slow ways network.

06 Jul 2022 (edited 09 Jul 2022)I walked this from St Blazey to St Austell and the main drag out of St Blaizey feels like a long one but keep at it! The footpaths on this section are good and just as the road veers left and downhill you will see a pink walled carpet shop next to a fish and chip shop on your left. Look right. Unassuming Grove Road takes you onto a lovely wooded path downhill to a stream.
Cross the stream on a narrow bridge (just a concrete sleeper) and follow the path uphill through two very narrow kissing gates onto the road. Go left downhill.
If you are walking the other way towards St Blazey do not confuse it with the entrance to Tregrehan Estate - a nicely made up path winding through the middle of a field. The one you need is right next to it, Shabbier and with a VERY narrow pedestrian gate.
Head down into Tregrehan and turn right.
Some map versions show a route through School Lane this is not in use. No problem, just continue up to the Boscoppa footpath (annother narrow bridge) and continue all the way to Bishop Bronson school. The path is direct but another dull road trip here until you reach the station.
From here you have three options; chill out in cemetary Park, follow the road down into St Austell or walk up the steps into the station car park and follow the footpath that will take you past the station and to the second bridge fo onward walking to Penwithick.

07 May 2022 (edited 11 May 2022)I walked this route in reverse, starting in St Blazey.
This slow way consists of an interesting middle, sandwiched by two practical but less exciting entries/exits into more urban areas.
St Blazey has amenities such as shops/pubs and public toilets, and is also close to Par train station, useful for onward travel to west Cornwall, north Cornwall, Devon and beyond.
The walk out of St Blazey follows a busy road, but has pavement all the way until the turn onto public rights of way. The route weaves its way through Tregehan Mills, a pretty little village, before spitting you out on the outskirts of St Austell.
The walk to the centre of St Austell is through quiet suburban roads which become busier as you approach the centre. Pavements are present on all of them. You arrive at St Austell train station which is close to many other amenities in the town.
Overall a practical and fairly interesting Slow Way, which does it's job well.
