It was very accessible with no styles and the only road walking was towards the end as you enter St Austell which I think would be unavoidable given you are walking into a town....

I walked this route from Mevagissey to St Austell. The main pro of this route is the separation from roads and pleasant walk along the St Austell river....
everydayduffy
From a practicality and accessibility standpoint this route is 5* and I may have been swayed by having just walked the road heavy Probus to Mevagissey route but it felt like it somewhat lacked the interest or variety from a scenery point of view that might have had me scoring it a 5* overall....

This route follows (except in St Austell itself) National Cycle Route 3, so route finding is easy and the trail is very accessible, either hard grit or tarmac throughout, with no gates, stiles, walls or any other obstructions. I didn't really need to include wayfinding arrows on the photos, as it's pretty obvious where to go, following the Cycle Route 3 signs....

It takes in the quintessential clay district and is readily navigable save some steep steps over the railway, and possibly a few easier ones on the footbridge over the A391....

I agree with Everydayduffy's observations: do persevere looking for the footpath quitting the A390 after the field walk out of St Austell (I also walked this route in reverse) it is there - just a little further along than expected....
Edensyard
Easy to navigate along the streets of St Austell, quiet lanes and obvious footpaths. The only issue I encountered was a fallen tree across the footpath at one point - which was easy enough to duck under, but would have been a problem when my back was worse. Other than that, definitely worthy of inclusion in the slow ways network....

Hugh Hudson added Staupen two, a new walk from St Austell to Penwithick
Walk this routeFollow this path to the anti vehicle bar onto Menacuddle Lane, walk down menecuddle lane, at the junction head downhill and follow right into Tremena Hill. The path will eventually lead you to a road bridge, cross the road and follow the adjacent path to Penwithick....
Edensyard
Cross the stream on a narrow bridge (just a concrete sleeper) and follow the path uphill through two very narrow kissing gates onto the road. From here you have three options; chill out in cemetary Park, follow the road down into St Austell or walk up the steps into the station car park and follow the footpath that will take you past the station and to the second bridge fo onward walking to Penwithick....

Entering Probus was ok, although the closure of road linking the A390 to Parkengear Vean closer to the centre of the village, meant I took an alternative route though a new build estate paralell to said road. Another thing to note is the availability of a path in the woodland on the southern side of the A390 west of Trewithen House....

everydayduffy added Stastb two, a new walk from St Austell to St Blazey
Walk this routeSt Blazey has amenities such as shops/pubs and public toilets, and is also close to Par train station, useful for onward travel to west Cornwall, north Cornwall, Devon and beyond....
everydayduffy
This is an easy route to complete, one climb shortly before descending into Mevagissey, with a lovely harbour and coffee/cakes to enjoy once you're there....
