Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

23 Nov 2021This route is direct and efficient at leaving London going west, and passes very close to Heathrow Airport T4 and T5.
It is marred at Stanwell Fields by a public footpath which is overgrown, and has less-than-satisfactory access across a makeshift bridge. I have reported the defects through the Ramblers website. First 3 pics.
I walked from Hounslow to Stanwell Moore. The first section is straight down the Staines Road, it's very direct and has some points of interest: Hounslow Heath, River Crane, London Loop, and Bedfont has shops and refreshments. The pavement is wide, so although it's a busy road it's not a bad experience. (photo with poppy)
After Bedfont the route swings towards Heathrow Airport and goes along a busy approach road. I found it better to walk on the wide grass verge on the south side of the road, rather than the narrow pavement on the north side. (photo with grass verge)
The route turns away from the airport and there is the footpath section through Stanwell Fields which I consider a bit risky for a Slow Way in its current state. (First 3 photos)
After that it was surprisingly pleasant (considering it's a stones throw from Heathrow) to walk through Stanwell and along a quiet path to Stanwell Moor.
I think the route is a good one for what it is intended to do, but because of the issue with the footpath at Stanwell Fields I can't green light it. I may put up an alternative option Two to deal with that part but the rest will be the same.
