Help connect Stanwell Moor
Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Stanwell Moor’s Slow Ways.

The first and last thirds are alongside a busy Stanwell Road and through fly-tipped motorway under passes. This means avoiding the woods and continuing along Stanwell Road for the entire walk....

The first part is along the unattractive Staines Road with little to enjoy which makes the contrast as you walk along The Duke of Northumberland River all the more enjoyable....

Otherwise, It is a straightforward route that is easy to follow and uses pavements and tarmacked paths. At the Stanwell Moor end I do love the river that runs along the residencial Hithermoor road (see photo under review of stahou)....

I continued on to the route to Ashford so missed out the centre of town....

Stanwell Moor is very quiet, I'd walked from Iver to Ashford via Stanwell making this a lovely station to station walk. No specific barriers to wheels but the path past Stains Reservoir is very narrow....

Starting in car swamped Iver you soon get to the Slough End of the Grand Union Canal and from here waterside paths dominate this walk down the Colne Valley. The paths weave under several major roads and Heathrow flight paths, not a quiet walk, there's a constant hum of traffic and roar of jets....

I walked from Stanwell Moor to Hounslow. Just after the start you walk down the quaint Hithermoor Road with the steam running along the front gardens. When first joining the river at Stanwell there are two river channels running parallel with a wide embankment in the middle (see picture). From here the path regularly swap sides of the river as pass the housing estate and even leaves it for a residential road for one section before going by Hatton Allotments and Dukes Green....

You then follow the road right (no pavement) until you turn left along Thorney Mill Road (U3 bus nearby) over Fray’s River. I walked around the left hand side of the golf course and followed the white rocks, to the right of the Colne Brook, that take you north through the golf course out to a tarmac lane through a gate (this is different to the route taken by the other reviewer (which is a bit further to the west) (This section again feels very remote) and then go left and then right following the Colne Valley Park path signs north through the wooded area along uneven dirt paths and with a number of fallen trees to go under, that then comes out (kissing gate) on the Slough spur of the Grand Union Canal where you then turn left to continue to Iver (this is covered by others) or right to West Drayton....

Youth then follow the busy Horton Road at the next round about you see the Golden Cross pub....

This journey is Harlington to Stanwell Moor, which I walked in two stages. You go through the village of Sipson (222 bus) and at King William pub continue along Harmondsworth Lane to the village of Harmondsworth (U3 and 350 buses). I walked Harmondsworth to Stanwell Moor section on a sunny November day. Accommadation Lane, surprised follow the road and not go through the the park on the right or swan lake by the BA building on the left of the road....

Walk this routeHowever as there isn’t much ‘off road’ on this route it provides variety, and there are sheep on the other side of the fence (photo)....

Good route along the reservoir between Staines and Stanwell Moor....

A quirky, well drawn, and easy to follow route which connects the watery area of Wraysbury with the almost-Heathrow of Stanwell Moor. There is some pavement, but a feature throughout this area is that car drivers park right up on the pavement, completely blocking it. There’s a short stretch of B road at Wraysbury station, then the route takes a good footpath alternative alongside a lake to reach Wraysbury village....

I did wonder about the tight access point to the Colne Valley biodiversity site at Stanwell Moor (see photo of brightly painted concrete blocks with narrow gap). Access: steep banks and some steps; narrow uneven footpaths; very narrow gap to enter/leave the Colne Valley biodiversity site at Stanwell Moor....

Walk this routeFor a route that wraps around Heathrow it’s surprisingly quiet, taking full advantage of the Colne Valley between Stanwell Moor and Harmondsworth; and sticking with a fairly quiet road between Harmondsworth and Harlington. There is also a very tight access point to the Biodiversity site north of Stanwell Moor. The route goes straight across the site (this is the main difference between this option and Stahar One, as this is where the planes can get rowdy and the route benefits from directness at this point). The only exit point south from the biodiversity site is through an underpass (another spur off the M25), which is almost entirely blocked, with just a tiny space left for access (photo). After that it was straight along the river to Stanwell Moor and the pub at the end point...

Walk this routeI passed the entrance to Hounslow Heath, but the route doesn’t detour across the heath, it would be quite a swerve to accommodate. The route stays on the north side of the DofN’s river past Heathrow T4. Then the route switches to a more rustic path that runs between the DofN’s river and the Longford river. It’s probably the Slow Way to choose if walking to Heathrow, from T4 the other terminals can be accessed by free transport...

The first section is straight down the Staines Road, it's very direct and has some points of interest: Hounslow Heath, River Crane, London Loop, and Bedfont has shops and refreshments. The route turns away from the airport and there is the footpath section through Stanwell Fields which I consider a bit risky for a Slow Way in its current state. After that it was surprisingly pleasant (considering it's a stones throw from Heathrow) to walk through Stanwell and along a quiet path to Stanwell Moor...

Then walk across the M25 at junction 14; the route drawing here is a bit abbreviated but its good enough. Then its back on the busy Stanwell Road with just enough, but no more, pavement, and occasionally there may be a car parked over it. This is a more-than-adequate route in a tricky area to negotiate, what with the airport, the motorway, river and reservoirs....
Jane Taylor
Direct route although if travelling with pushchair then better to use Park Road and Town Lane as path is narrow behind the houses....

Direct path but a little boring as travels along by a high metal fence of much of the way....
