Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

14 Jun 2021The section of this route from Clowne to Woodthorpe has been superceeded by the Clowne Greenway, an abandoned railway track which has been converted by Derbyshire CC for pedestrians, cyclists and horses. The result is very little traffic on the original route and it's often hard to work out where the footpath is. The new Greenway runs roughly parallel north of the old route across the fields much of which is getting lost because of lack of signage and one field which is ploughed across (see photo 1 looking back towards Clowne). The stile from the B6418 going towards Woodthorpe had an electric fence across it with a clip for unhooking which didn't release (see photo 2). Further on a large mound of builders' rubble had been dumped across the path although it's possible this might be temporary. In a couple of places it's difficult to judge where access across a field might be.
The old route crosses the Greenway before Woodthorpe. From there to the footbridge over the River Doe Lea at the edge of Staveley the route is straightforward but after that there's really no signage (see photo 3). It's hard to follow the marked route into the centre of Staveley but there are a variety of paths/back streets which go in the right direction and with a map it's not hard to find a way to get there.
