Strider

I walked from Southwater to Partridge Green.
This is a super route, very easy to navigate, you can put the phone/GPS away, lift your head up and enjoy the scenery. I did this walk as part of a walk to Shoreham and took the Downs Link practically all the way, the scenery gets better the further South you go. The bird song was fantastic, no traffic noise, few roads to cross, and, as mentioned by other reviewers a picnic stop at the old West Grinstead station. On this day volunteers were repairing several of the benches. The only drawback was that my feet were (literally) aching for a softer surface to walk on. Lots of snack stops.
Suitable for wheels of all kinds, flat with a good surface, no barriers or obstructions.

Walked on 9/5/2022. This route follows the Downslink trail from start to finish. It is an old railway line which has been repurposed as a cycle path, bridleway and footpath. It has been recently resurfaced to be usable in all weathers, all year round. The path is flat, straight and it would be impossible to get lost. The half-way point at the old West Grinstead station has picnic benches and interesting remnants from the days of the old steam railway. The Orchard Restaurant is just off the trail on the A272 for refreshments.

The trail is very pretty and peaceful, lined on both sides by mature trees and hedgerows, home to lots of wildlife. In May you can hear nightingales and cuckoos along the way.

There are no stiles or gates to negotiate along the way, and a nice café at the Southwater end, overlooking the lake at Southwater Country Park.

A very enjoyable route. As Pilea thinks it is Slow Ways perfection, I'll go along with that!.

This is nearly a perfect Slow Way? The route follows the South Downs link which is a flat and easy to follow disused railway line that's used by walkers, horse riders and cyclists. Loved the trees along the route.
