Lovely walk on Exmoor, but with some tough parts to get through. Slow steep climbs and uneven ground in parts. Across moorland, lanes and some road. Second half we missed a path and got stuck for a bit in a quarry having to battle some nettles and fallen trees! We broke the walk in 2 and stopped in Exford for a cream tea. A rewarding walk with some beautiful views, but not an easy one for me.

We broke this walk into two. A lovely walk over moor, through woods etc but we did go wrong as path not easy to find and ended up climbing out of a disused quarry - quite the adventure! Other than that problem, and assuming we found the right path, I would do it again - beginning, middle and end having lovely refreshments available if wanted.

Lovely route across Exmoor. In places the path on the ground is not where the map says it is, but I've tried to plot it as close as possible to the best way. In some parts there is no obvious path, so you need GPS or a map.
The route crosses moorland, woodland and farmland, and a village or 2. I walked from Simonsbath to Wheddon, but over 2 days breaking it up at Exford, where there are pubs and tea rooms, and accommodation.
There are 2 tricky sections the first being the top of Ashcombe hill to Warren Bridge. There is no path on the ground, and if you follow the right of way using gps you miss the gate. Once through the gate follow the fence on your right until you reach the Macmillan Way West, then follow the steep path downhill to Warren Bridge. It's tough, but the best way down.
The second tricky bit is near Ballpark Copse, going across a disused quarry. It follows a short section of road walking (quiet, and with verges if needed), but the path isn't clear. We tried to follow it using GPS and had to push through nettles, ending up in a quarry. The bridleway actually sticks to the north of the route on the map.
Other than those 2 sections, this is a lovely Exmoor walk.
