Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

One complaint... Wish it was longer!.

20 Nov 2024This is a brilliant Slow Way! What a beauty.. and probably the way people have walked between Shaftesbury and Tisbury for hundreds of years.
I walked this route as part of a one day adventure between Sherborne and Tisbury, both of which have train stations. While I enjoyed the whole trail, this section was easily the best.
Other than a small section of on the edge of Shaftesbury the rest of the route goes through Cranborne Chase National Landscape, with its gorgeous rolling hills and woodlands. The route also passes the remains of Old Wardour Castle, which pokes out of the the woods.
The majority of this route is on wide hard tracks that easy to navigate and largely following the Wessex Ridgeway. There are a few steep sections, but the route is largely firm under foot.
I started the walk in Shaftesbury, which makes for a great start or end point. The town has great views, charming old streets and lots of independent shops. I'll be back!
Everyone in Shaftesbury and Tisbury should give this route a go!
It 100% deserves to be part of the Slow Ways network. Enjoy!.

15 May 2024A very enjoyable walk indeed through beautiful countryside. The footpath through the woods on the edge of Shaftesbury is prone to getting very muddy in wet weather so appropriate footwear is highly recommended.
Both Shaftesbury and Tisbury have good coffee shops so whichever direction you do the walk, you can finish it with a nice cuppa. There's a pub at Donhead St Andrew called 'The Forester' that does good food should you fancy a mid-point meal.
