Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

14 Jun 2024A safe and enjoyable walk. Just a short stretch of busy road leads to a path down to the canal towpath. This is followed by an easy connection to Burn Airfield with a good walking surface and interpretation boards to study. After which it is open countryside, lanes a tracks, with just a short stretch of roadside walking(no pavement) on s straight section of Hirst Road. A Flood Bank follows which leads to a bridge over the River Aire and a short pavement stroll into Snaith. I would walk it again and recommend it.

24 Aug 2023I walked this route on 10th August 2023. It was a very hot day but we had had a lot of rain previously. There quite a few muddy patches left behind . There were some narrow roads without pavements.
There was a very interesting horse training area not currently in use. When it is in use, I am not sure if this would affect the access along the route.

17 Aug 2023We walked the Slow Ways route from Snaith to Selby on a very hot day.over the River Aire and along the flood Bank towards West Bank. Then a mixture of tracks and footpaths with several woods on the way, which provided some much needed cooling shade!!Watch out for misleading Private Road signs "hiding" Public Footpath arrows.Onwards then through a horse jumping field but no problems there.Over a level crossing then on to a country Road towards Brayton Canal Bridge where we had a much needed break.Final stretch along the Canal Bank into Selby. This walk provides a mix of Flood Bank,Footpath,Tracks ,and Canal Bank so I would certainly walk it again.

18 Jun 2023I walked it from SNAITH to SELBY but I could nor find that on the options.
Leaving Snaith, I was soon on a very good flood bank. Unfortunately the next section was walking on the edge of a fairly busy road (no pavement) but it was not very far. The next few miles were on tracks which were ok in June but may be tricky after heavy rainfall. There was then a short section of minor road walking, followed by some very good country paths alongside woodland. It was then through a horse training area that was very interesting followed by a track that led into a quiet tarmac road.
I did not like this next section because there was a double bend with quite a lot of traffic This is why I only gave 4 stars. The rest of the journey to Selby was pleasant with some great canal side walking.

18 Jun 2023This route comes close to The Trans Pennine Trail and it may be an idea to create a different route to avoid a possibly dangerous roadway.

29 May 2024In June 2023, I reported a dangerous double bend on this route(no pavement) and suggested possibly using the Trans Pennine Trail to avoid this danger. I walked here again on Bank Holiday Monday and it was quite frightening with lots of traffic Rather than creating a new route is it possible to keep the existing route and code number SELSNA One and just amend the route. All three current reviews are from members of our Action Group and they would all be happy with the suggested change. I have created a map showing the recommended change. Please let me know who i can e mail it to.
Many Thanks KEITH GRRENWWOD -
