Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

28 Nov 2021Definitely the most direct and safe way to Lydd.
The walking along the National Cycle Network might not be hugely varied, apart from the section at Camber Beach to Jury's Gap, where you can take in all of Rye Bay and watch gannets diving into the Channel for their lunch, but you will almost certainly observe a lot of other birdlife on the way too. The path often runs alongside the main road but it is just about far enough away that you shouldn't find it spoiling things. That can also be said for the Lydd Firing Range on the other side of the road. There is a certain weird fun in hearing the distant rattle of machine guns, with geese trying to out-honk them.
In spring you will likely walk through enormous clouds of insects beside the lakes near Lydd. Many of the creatures are a bit bitey. I've taken to bringing wrap-around sunglasses and a bluff to cover up as best I can.
