Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

25 Aug 2024 (edited 26 Aug 2024)The hike starts off in Southam town centre which has picturesque old buildings. It takes you through a churchyard and some pretty woods, then you reach the Holy Well. I struggled to find a way onto the Harry Greenway at first but if you walk the road up to the water polo club you can get onto the Greenway through the trees. The walk along Harry Greenway is very peaceful, all you can hear there are grasshoppers. Don’t be put off by the signs saying private property, they are for the woodlands, the path is public right of way. The Ridgeway had blackberries size of golf balls (end of August) and the walk down the grand Union canal is relaxing. The canal has some interesting locks and art work. The route is mostly off road and I found it straight forward and very pleasant to walk. I would happily do it again (in fact I did walk the reverse route to get back). It felt safe and it was accurate and I would recommend it to others. One way the route took me 2 hours and 40 minutes, with average walking speed of 5km/h.

07 Aug 2022Completed this walk from Southam today. I really enjoyed this great route which barely has any road walking, and as such can recommend with five stars.
The route between Southam and Ufton has many kissing gates and a few narrow footbridges, but after Ufton, the route is easy, especially along the canal section. The 10th century Holy Well on the way provides some historic interest.
The views from the beer garden of the White Hart are excellent, and is a great spot for refreshments.
The Ridgeway section from Ufton towards the canal has been significantly widened to accommodate HS2 construction traffic, but it was quiet when I was there.
