Royton to Shaw via the golf course, abattoir road and Farrow Street.
Avoiding the main roads this is probably the most direct route, however look out for turnstile at east end of the golf course following a reasonably steep gravel section. Muddy underfoot on the link path to Cowlishaw and narrow section with post adjacent Cocker Mill. Steel gate to abattoir road but pedestrian gate at side always unlocked as its a public footpath. Abattoir site has planning for redevelopment so possible future public footpath diversion. Cowlishaw is a gravel road but all other quieter roads after that are tarmac
