Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Sightblinder
22 Jun 2021Route of of the town centre is easy going and accessible until you just after you cross the railway footbridge. Once past here the next footpath becomes narrow and uneven and is unsuitable for wheelchair users. Further on from here is a stile and an area that regularly floods / becomes boggy. After the there is a stream crossing via two timber planks that have been ;aid over it, no hand rail and too narrow for wheeled access.
Another stile follows followed by crossing a field that is normally very rutted and poached by cows, it is not easy going for anyone with mobility issues.
After this there is a better section, followed by another stile and then a very narrow path, less 1m and frequently muddy and slippery in winter to a very narrow stile. See pic 1.
After crossing Bracken lane access to the path is by climbing a farm gate, see pic 2. From here the marked path largely disappears and becomes difficult to follow and requires the crossing of either an electric or barbed wire fence with no stile.
After this the going improves and any able bodied Walker should be able to complete the route.

20 Jul 2023I don't know the area well, but I suspect that Grove Drive would offer an easier route out of Retford. I won't submit a new route without test walking it.
