Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

27 Nov 2023We walked this route in two sections because we live in Outwood which is 2/3 of the way along the route. The longer section from Redhill to Outwood was a delight (see photo from the top of Redill Common). We did it on a crisp winter morning and found paths we hadn't walked before even though some of us were born and bred in this area. The permissive paths through Redhill Common were quite steep and rutted so not suitable for buggies or the less mobile.
We also walked from Blindly Heath to Outwood (reversing the route as published). There was a gate in St John's Meadow near Blindley Heath that was flooded and difficult to navigate (see photo) and the public footpath just west of St John's church in Blindley Heath was difficult to find. However, it was evident that plenty of people had simply cut though the fields so we just followed the path they had made.
15km is quite a long walk for some people which is partly why we split it into two sessions.
