A longer but more pleasant route into the city centre, diverting south from the Union Canal through the Heriot-Watt University campus, to join the Water of Leith path and a stretch of the John Muir Way. Suitable for walking, biking and wheeling (although some stretches of the canal towpath are narrow, particularly over the aquaduct in Slateford)

22 Apr 2022Great alternative route taking in lots of off road options. If steps are a possibility then perhaps continue down the Water of Leith to the Visitors Centre on Lanark Road to avoid the narrow aqueduct at Slateford but otherwise well worth following this one.
