16 Mar 2023This route has a problem of access at Rufford Country Park. The section entering Ollerton is not clearly defined. I have uploaded an edited version - Rainew2.

22 Jun 2022This is a fairly straightforward route which goes through a variety of scenery including heathland, forest and arable fields. It also passes through Rufford Park which has much of interest. Most of the walk is off road on decent paths and forest tracks. There are a few steady climbs but nothing severe.
Starting from the centre of Rainworth you follow a wide no through road and cycle track before crossing the busy rainworth by-pass. Go down steps to reach a nice area of heathland then go uphill in a narrow strip of trees. After 600m including a downhill and uphill you find yourself at the top of the embankment above the cycle route which you join.
Follow this under a bridge and go further into Sherwood forest. The forest tracks here are generally firm and striaght and you follow them for three miles to reach Sherwood Pines with many activities and refreshments. The route then continues past the outside of Center Parcs before crossing the A614.
The official Rainew route shown then goes along private roads in Rufford village with no direct access to Rufford Park as far as I know. Instead once you cross the A614 you should turn left to follow the pavement up to the main Rufford Park entrance where you turn right along the main driveway.
This soon rejoins the official Rainew route which you follow past the main buildings and cafe area. Go past the sculpture garden and abbey into the park and round the lake.
Leave the park and turn right. After following a long driveway there is a mile of arable field walking on paths which hopefully will be well-maintained all year round but may be muddy at times.
As you reach the edge of Ollerton skirt round a new housing park development by a wood, then cross a
common and follow roads into the centre of Ollerton.
