Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Hiking Historian
15 Dec 2023Walked in reverse. A good route using footpaths and well-paved roads.
From the start in Eccleston, a lengthy road walk, mostly along Kiln and Hard Lanes, passing the heritage centre, until we get to the cemetery at Windle Hill. Here we take a track that goes over a bridge over the A580, then a footpath downhill across a sometimes muddy field.
The road at the end is paved, but we soon join a footpath that runs between a golf course. It can be flooded in places, but it is a good walk even in rough weather. At the end, onto Mill Lane (paved), and once past the houses and industrial units, another footpath along the edge of another industrial estate; this part is wooded.
At the end, and out of the trees, a farm track to the road, where, just around the corner, we join the tarmacced former railway which runs straight into the centre of Rainford.
A good rural walk, with transport and shops at both ends.
