Connect Eccleston with Slow Ways
We’re creating a network of walking routes that connect all of Britain’s towns, cities and national parks
more walks and reviews are needed to fully connect Eccleston to the verified network. Can you give a hike and help?

Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.
Give a hike and help get a for every one of Eccleston’s Slow Ways.

Latest Updates
The route left Eccleston shops and progressed along a string of residential streets. In theory this route should be wheel-accessible, but there was a lot of thoughtless and obstructive pavement parking....

Opposite the end of Eccleston Mere I was able to get brief respite by crossing the road to walk on the grass a bit further from the traffic, nearer the housing. PS it’s mostly uphill if you walk from Eccleston to Prescot!...

At the end of a long road, we join another road; it does have a pavement, albeit overgrown in places, so it's best to walk on the road. At another road, we follow a track (not an official footpath, but a well-used local desire path) along the edge of a field, until we follow the route until it crosses the A580; there's gaps in the crash barriers where to cross....

The road at the end is paved, but we soon join a footpath that runs between a golf course....

Running alongside sportsfields and then the edge of a farm field, we soon meet the A570, where we cross (there is no crossing, so care is needed). Ahead, a series of farm tracks (muddy in places) past Mossborough Hall until we meet the Coach Road, which is wooded and mostly tarmac....

Then onto a quiet single lane road and dirt path, and past farm buildings....

This route includes private inaccessible paths and so isn't a valid route....

A short straightforward paved route on pavement. Undulating but mostly downhill. Facilities at start and finish....

Hiking Historian added Eccsth two, a new walk from Eccleston to St Helens
Walk this routeThere is one small section that doesn't work, however: there is no crossing over Kirkland Street from Albion Street to gain access to the footpath and beyond, so I've rerouted this section slightly in ECCSTH Two....

Mostly fully accessible route for all users; most junctions have ramped crossings or low kerbs, but there's the odd high kerb that may impede progress for wheelchair users. Fully paved throughout, although it's mostly an uninteresting suburban wander. Shops at both ends with nearby transport links....

Accessible mostly throughout for all users; only a couple of roads in Eccleston lack ramps for crossings, but there are nearby driveway ramps. It's all a paved road walk, from suburb to suburb, with a nice green country section in the middle, and mostly gradually downhill. Shops and transport links at both ends....

This route is not feasible: the entire Patten's Walk section is on private farm roads on the Knowsley Estate. I'll submit a better route in the future....
