Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

28 Jun 2024I really enjoyed walking this slow way, would do it again and recommend it to others.
It’s not accessible for all, traversing steep gradients on uneven ground but it is typical for the topography of Dartmoor. It mostly follows defined tracks or worn paths, with a minor road section, and is well waymarked. It follows the Dartmoor Way High Moor Link at either end.
I caught the bus to Princetown and walked to Buckfastleigh (more downhill!). Refreshments at both.
It was relatively dry, but where there were boggy sections it was easy to walk around. The old packhorse trail leading out of Princetown was fabulous. A real sense of history and also peaceful solitude.
From Hexworthy (where there’s a pub) the route follows a minor road but it was quiet and the views were great, also orchids in the verge.
At Combeshead Tor car park the route turns off the road and follows a faint worn path up over Holne Moor via Horn’s Cross. Coming down towards Buckfastleigh it gives fantastic view over the south Devon countryside. The route then follows leafy lanes and holloways (some part stream), woodland paths then quiet roads into Buckfastleigh.
A great way to see Dartmoor with variety of landscape.
