Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

Straightforward and pleasurable, gently undulating coastal walk between two pretty old fishing villages on the Fife coast path. Beautiful views across the Firth of Forth. Curlews prodding around for worms in the fields and on beaches along the way. Look out for the little beach made entirely of shells by the golf course, and a couple of buildings decorated with them in Anstruther. Plenty of eating, drinking and ice cream options at both ends. Both villages have tidal swimming pools (but not on the course of the Slow Way. Pittenweem’s is to the west of the village and Anstruther’s to the east, just beyond Cellardyke). We stayed in Anstruther the night and visited a couple of pubs. It’s a friendly, likeable place. The slow way is well-connected by bus.

Easy to walk route following the Fife Coast Path between Pittenweem and Anstruther. Going is easy underfoot, and nice and flat along this section.

As a previous reviewer mentioned this would be difficult for someone requiring a wheelchair due to the presence of some styles along the way.

Walked from St Monans, just south of Pittenween to Cellardyke, just north of Anstruther on the Fife Costal Path. Well maintained route with no stiles although some sections would be difficult for wheelchair users. Clean public toilets in both Pittenween and Anstruther. Plenty of food and drink outlets in both villages. Great views over to the Firth of Fourth to Bass Rock and May Island. Returned to St Monans by foot so not able to comment on public transport or accommodation although both clearly available.
