Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

11 Jun 2023This route is not at all direct and relies too heavily on roads. There is a much straighter route mostly on public footpaths across the south of Midhurst Common, through The Warren over to the Minsted road, skirting the south of the sand pit to Fitzhall, over to Dumpford via Goldrings Farm, along the old railway line to avoid the road, then a short section of road in Nyewood before picking up the Serpents trail across to Down Park Farm and finally into Petersfield via Ryefields. This is easy to navigate and there are refreshments along the way at Sky Park and sometimes also at Henry Warren Hall in Nyewood.

30 Aug 2022This route is about 80% road and 20% trails. In the wet the trails will be pretty muddy I think.
Most of the roads are single track back roads so quite quiet, however there were some parts on bigger roads without pavements so care is needed.
The Serpent Trail is used both coming out of Petersfield and going into Midhurst, but make sure you turn off at the right point. (that's a much longer route!)
I think this route is actually slightly longer than it says here, but I did go wrong at a couple of points which will have added to it. I found the last bit going into Midhurst confusing as there are lots of different paths you could take.
It's a little hilly, but nothing too bad.
Walkers and cyclists would find this route ok, although there was some very soft sand in places and care will be needed on the road sections.
Food and drink can be purchased in both Petersfield and Midhurst, and there is a village shop in Rogate.
I ran this on a summer bank holiday so it was pretty quiet and it took me about 2hr 30mins.
I don't know the area well enough to make suggestions away from the roads.
