Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

12 Feb 2023This would probably be a four star route were it not for the road walking on the B5012 Cannock Road near Pillaton, which I would not fail as a dangerous, but would certainly describe as requiring caution. The first section of the walk along Stafford Road is safe, but not very interesting. As soon as you step into Shoal Hill Common the walk soon picks up. Crossing Cocksparrow Lane is easy having gone over or around the metal stile. Crossing into farmland the open land, with views towards the Wrekin (or back towards Cannock Chase) were quite uplifting. What tempers this slightly is the feeling of a landowner at war with the outside world. There are gaps instead of stiles and a 200m wide bank of horse manure had been placed across the right of way (I walked round). Having got through the road walking, the final section from Pillaton to Penkridge is a delightful walk. This route is reasonably direct, mostly safe and for the most part enjoyable. It's not always easy to follow in the fields section between Cocksparrow Lane and Cannock Road due to the poor repair of the infrastructure. There are plenty of stops and shops at either end, and a cafe in a country business park in Pillaton. There are stiles and steps in this route.
