Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

20 Aug 2023Walked this on 20th August 2023 really nice route up through the castle hill nature reserve. Loads of benches to enjoy a drink and the view.

05 Feb 2023This is a lovely walk, following the well signed England Coast Path pretty much all the way - so it's dead easy to follow. Mix of tarmac, grass, gravel and pavement walking. Toilets en route on the edge of Newhaven (albeit a bit grim). I'd certainly suggest it as a more interesting route than Peanew1, which largely goes direct on minor roads, rather than along the cliff tops.
However, the walk is VERY close to the edge of the cliffs in places and the path is very narrow and uneven. I'm not sure I'd want to use the path either in windy or foggy weather, or with small children. This is why it gets 4 stars rather than 5! In mild and dry weather like I had today, the path is absolutely fine and just requires a bit of care in the narrower bits.
Also the Slow Ways marker for Peacehaven is in the wrong place. I'd suggest it should either be by the Roderick Avenue bus stop - there's a few shops, cafes etc here and some buses along the coast road are limited stop and Roderick Avenue is the only stop that these buses serve in Peacehaven.

30 May 2022Peacehaven and Newhaven are blessed with wonderful clifftop views. This route is well-signed, following the yellow England Coast Path signs all the way. There are no stiles or gates, but due to the undulating nature of clifftop walking, it will probably not be accessible to all. It may not be ideal for those who suffer from vertigo.
Other than that, it is a lovely walk which takes in all the best bits of Newhaven. The quayside is being developed into an attractive area where you can see the fishing boats, lifeboat and traffic heading in and out of the harbour.
