31 Jan 2024The walk is reasonably flat for the most part, although there is a change in gradient when approaching the canal and when crossing the Trent.
Despite being a city centre walk, the views of the architecture and changes which Nottingham has seen over decades if not 100s of years showed a city which certainly looks to be on the up - especially given the building work, which at times meant that walking off the path was required.
The paths though were in good repair through out. The only thing to be careful of was the mooring points along the canal.
We were walking in a group and admiring the street art and canoeists. My colleagues thought i hadn't seen the moorings, but neglected to mention them to me anyway. ; )
The weather was dry when we walked and our group supported a narrow boat through the lock where the canal meets the Trent.
As avid sports fans it was also good to catch a glimpse of the football grounds (Meadow Lane - Notts County and The Forest Ground - Nottingham Forest) as well as the cricket ground (Trent Bridge).
Should you require them, there are rest stops towards the end of the route.

16 Jun 2022Did this as part of a three part longer walk starting at West Bridgford. I won't write a long review as this route already has a snail mark but this is about as pleasant as any urban route can be.
The canal steps have now been refurbished and the temporary metal ones have gone. The new ones would be easy enough for a cyclist but are still not wheelchair friendly. The Weekday Cross/Nottingham Contemporary steps can be avoided by using the pavement on Middle Hill, but for fitter walkers the steps are a more interesting route. The canal is probably the best route available for the main part of the walk.

16 Feb 2022This is an excellent urban slow way. It effectively joins these two sites. The route is pleasant under foot and easy to follow. There are buildings of interest at various places along the route. The flights of steps at the canal basin may, in time, be refurbished during the current building works. However, the steps at the Notting Contemporary / Weekday Cross will be a fixture for some time to come. There are several different ways of negotiating Nottingham City Centre but the plotted route is as good as any.

07 Oct 2021This is a short and pleasant route from Nottingham to West Bridgford along the Nottingham Canal. The canal is used by walkers and cyclists, particularly on match days (for football and cricket).

12 Jun 2021A pleasant walk along the canal, although I did get minorly harassed by some goose parents.

10 Jun 2021The best way from Nottingham to West Bridgford on foot is by the canal.
I'd suggest Path Surface Grade 1, and Access Grade Z [due to the steps where the path crosses the canal near Great Northern Close // the Virgin gym].
