14 Dec 2022I walked Nottingham to Arnold with a friend. We both really enjoyed the walk through an area we had both known so it was full of reminiscences and nostalgia. As a Slow Way I felt some of the paths would be seen as less friendly through an area that is often in the news for the wrong reasons. The brief encounter with green areas failed to compensate for the otherwise unnecessary climb to Mapperley Top.
Pictures:
Street Art on Broad Street Nottingham, a reused canvas.
Changing scene, demolition of the Royal Mail Parcel Sorting Office Brook Street.
A General Post Office strong hold, the liner once home to the Letter Sorting Office.
St Ann's or Hungerhill allotments not all used for growing vegetables.
Off Street parking, use the pavement instead.
Marking the boundary city to county.
Marking Christmas on the approach to Arnold.

20 Jul 2022Walked as the second part of a three route walk from Carlton to Beeston via Arnold and Nottingham. There are no serious issues with this route but it is almost entirely on paths and pavements and the remainder is on hard surfaced paths so it is rather relentless and dare I say it uninspiring, though it is probably suitable for wheelchairs and buggies as long as they can cope with the gradients. I don't really see the point of going via St Ann's, and although this route skirts the famous Hungerhill Gardens allotments, it doesn't allow views into them - going via Sherwood would allow a little more green space in the Forest and the Arboretum to be included, though I am not sure that is sufficient justification for a new alternative route.

20 Jul 2022The route I described was from Arnold to Nottingham, not from Carlton

20 Jul 2022Sorry Stephen and thanks for spotting my mistake - I have just corrected the review. Carlton was in my head because I started the first route of the day there.

07 May 2022I walked this route from Arnold. It follows quiet residential roads to the edge of Woodthorpe Grange Park, and then climbs on quiet residential roads to Mapperley reservoir. From here it follows the quiet roads on the edge of Coppice Park and Hungerhill Gardens. It then passes on footpaths through the St Anns housing developments to reach the city centre.
