Description
This route was designed to be pretty direct but avoid long stretches along busy roads
It could be more direct by following roads Newmarket-Snailwell (-1 1/4km) and/or Worlington-Mildenhall (-2/3 km). Both seem to have paved paths or wide verges but are 60mph and look busy. I reckon this small diversion is worth it. There is one other train station that could be linked in, but it it very badly served by footpaths and those trains also stop at Newmarket, so it isn't worth the extra distance or road walking.
There was one place where I am not sure about the route. From the Walnut Tree pub in Worlington is is possible or legitimate to go directly north along the very small road then join the Lark River trail. OS looks like there are gates, but Strava maps suggest it is well used and there are no "Private Road" signs. Alternatives are: turn right then along roads into Mildenhall (slightly shorter). Or turn left towards village, turn right, pass church, then either Lark River trail or past Wamil Hall (slightly longer)

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

04 Oct 2022I ran this route in October 2022. Suitable for walkers/runners, not wheelchairs or bikes. I don't remember seeing any gates or stiles. I'd use it again if needed.
- Newmarket to Snailwell was good - predominately pavements and a well-made bridleway. Easily accessible for all.
- Snailwell to Chippenham was along a field track - ok for walkers, not good for wheelchairs. Potential to get quite muddy in winter.
- Chippenham to the Elms Road crossing was all minor country roads. There is a chance of fast cars (or cyclists), but it didn't appear to be a particularly busy road.
- Elms Road crossing to Worlington is a well used footpath. Again, fine for walkers (and runners), but there might be a few tricky bits for wheelchairs. At the end of the path is a fairly busy road to get into the centre of Worlington, the first short stretch has no pavement, but there's a decent grass verge.
- For Worlington to Mildenhall, I didn't actually follow the Slow Way. I turned right on the B1102 Mildenhall Road and followed that the rest of the way. It's all pavement and easy to follow - but it's quite narrow in places.
