Description
This route "crosses" the M4 using one of those rights of way that look really ambiguous on OS maps. Is there an underpass or a footbridge, or nothing at all? Strava heat maps are brilliant in these situations, and as their subscribers *never* use the "crossing" it likely one of those path which just stops abruptly, making two useless path stumps. There is a decent footbridge nearby, but while I had the heat map open I noticed a long section of this route also appears not to be used, at least it's so faint you can barely see it. And so there's a strong chance walkers would encounter signs of neglect like muddy crossings of ploughed fields, broken stiles, thickets of brambles, etc, etc.
Seeing as no-one has walked the route yet I've thrown together a route which Strava suggests is regular use. There are some nice features, including more pubs. The southern half now goes through Snelsmore Common Country Park (public toilets) and it encounters bus stops quite frequently (can't promise the same for the buses). The last(/first) section around Newbury now goes past the remains of Donnington Castle, and then joins two long distance trails to come into Newbury centre along the canalside. Also, and like the original, it's within a very short distance of budget accomodation (a Travelodge) at the M4 services. See attached map

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
