Description
Remote but beautiful. Some off path on terrain. Passes Linn of Avon Waterfall. Crosses Water of Ailnack which may not be passable in all conditions. An alternative is to use two SLOW ways Nethy Bridge to Tomintoul and then Tomintoul to Loch Builg

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

One Woman Walks
14 Sep 2025Black but beautiful terrain.
Stone track for most of it.
The off path sections is tricky, heather bog and crossing a stream multiple times as it descends into a gorge. There is no path at all for this section, just sheep trails so we did the best we could.
River was crossable on stones - mid sept after a dry summer.
Very steep and difficult pathless climb to get up from Water of Ailnack towards Nethy Bridge but only a few hundred meters.
Very good wilderness walking.
