Nanabe two

I created this route as Nanabe1 has an access issue near Nant Ddu and I also did not want to walk the big detour around the forest. I have tried to create a straighter route but the lack of paths through certain areas of the Brecon Beacons meant there is a slight detour at the beginning and end. Near Nant-Ddu there are no footpaths south (see access issue earlier) so you have to use the A road - this is not too bad as it follows the course of a river and when I set off in early in the morning I got to see three herons taking off. The A road has a decent verge and its only 20 mins before you are completely away from it all. There are many varying sections : forest, moorland, reservoirs, rivers and great views of the surrounding Beacons. Through the forest I saw plenty of Muntjac deer and across the moorland, lots of windchats. There is a cafe near one of the reservoirs and a beautiful walk up a valley to the hills above. The cafe also has a campsite. Just before reaching Abercynafon there are probably two of the best view in the Beacons - down a massive valley and across Talybont reservoir. The final part brings you down through a forest trail which in is one of the prettiest forest routes I have ever walked - very fairy tale. Don't expect much in Abercynafon - there is only self catering available (min 7 days) and quite expensive. However this is a beautiful valley and worth just walking on to another SlowWays node. The section of moorland just after the forest past Nant Dddu starts quite navigable with posts marking the way and at the end of the section the path is quite clear - however the mid section is going to require a map & compass or gps app to keep up with the path. I did not expect much from this walk but in the end it proved to be one of my favourite Beacons walks - well recommended
