10 Feb 2024Great route between Melksham and Devizes, avoiding the no doubt very wet ground elsewhere. I can confirm this route should be wheelable, and is perfectly good on foot too.

30 May 2021Most of the route (75%) is along Kennet & Avon canal and whole of route can be done with a wheel chair. Leaving Melksham Town (23%) is mostly along busy town roads and dull. In 2021 the canal path improved after the first kilometre.
There are several pubs on route, and all can be reached via wheelchair.
Entering Devizes Town (1%) involves short walk via a busy road but there are more buildings of historical interest.
In verifying the route, I have added a few pictures to supplement existing Survey Photos.
Walkers who can use an ordnance survey map might prefer a pleasanter route out of Melksham by following Clackers Brook to Redstocks and then joining the Kennet & Avon Canal via Rusty Lane Farm. In wet weather this option can be muddy and without GPS can be a challenge to find the less used paths. Also only 40% of alternative route would be on the Canal.

11 May 2021A longer alternative to other Meldev routes which have field paths with stiles, but one suitable for wheelchairs/ pushchairs.
