Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

This route is unsafe- there is no pavement for a long stretch on manston road - this is a problem because there is a blind corner and it is a very fast road- we do need an alternative.

Hi Naami. I've come up with a new route. It sounds as if you know the are, could you take a look at the link to see if there are any problems you already know of, or if you can recommend a nicer way. https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2490302?units=miles The symbols will get a lot smaller once you zoom in!

I will be uploading an alternative to this route as parts of it are not safe or accessable. Specifically the blind turning on Manston road, which has no pavement for several metres, is a bit of a race track for traffic and no place to 'step aside' to avoid cars. It might look like any smaller country road you can walk down, but it's not. The turning on to the footpath there is also partially blocked by weeds and rubbish (I approached it from the other side) so even if you do manage to make it that far without being run over you will still have a bit of a job getting on to safe ground. Later on in the route there is a recommendation to cross Haine road, which is also a very busy road. It is possible to do this safely at a crossing that is not on the route and I will be adding to my alternative one.

Hello NH. I think this route includes the changes which you mentioned in your Margate to Ramsgate review, plus a few other changes that might make it a little greener, a little quieter. Does it have any problems that are obvious to you? https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2490302?units=miles

Hi Daisy, sorry for the slow reply. The route you suggest here is far safer, I can't see anything there that is an obvious issue in that regard. This is one of those walks where you could take several different options, this isn't the fastest way to Ramsgate but it is a nice walk. The main issues with the original were really just Manston Road (as far as I know that footpath is still blocked, although I have not checked in the past few weeks), and crossing at Haine Road, but the route you have here avoids both those problems.
