Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

An attractive Slow Way through the North Wessex Downs that follows the River Kennet east to Ramsbury, and then heads north to Aldbourne village.
The footpath from Marlborough is overgrown in places (Photo 1) and there are steps over a disused railway, now a cycle path (Photo 2).
There’s a break point at the Horseshoe Inn in Mildenhall (Photo 3).
The route to Ramsbury follows footpaths and lanes south of the river, with access to the river in places (Photo 4).
There’s a break point at The Red Lion Inn, Axford. Cross a road bridge for a narrow road into the village. It might be safer to cross at the footpath further on (SU242698). The route then returns to the south bank.
The Slow Way leaves the river at Ramsbury, which has a choice of two pubs.
The walk north to Aldbourne is along Love’s Lane: a tarmacked lane which becomes a byway, uneven in places (Photos 5 & 6). Note: the footpath through Love’s Farm (SU273724) doesn’t seem to exist; so just keep to the lane.
The Slow Way ends at picturesque Aldbourne (Photo 7). I had lunch at the Blue Boar by the village green (Photo 8). A detour NW along a footpath leads to the Four Barrows (Photo 9).
