22 Jun 2022 Summer

Market Warsop to Mansfield Woodhouse on a hot sunny day. Generally easy to follow on the ground but as recorded elsewhere the plot is wrong. At Littlewood a double crossing of the railway is required, see Manmar-2 for an accurate plot. No cattle, generally good surfaced tracks but two stiles at rail level crossing and tracks are Byways so there could be motorised traffic although I saw none. No services on route and little of any interest. Meeting point at Mansfield Woodhouse is poor as station is on edge of settlement this route misses the town centre so I've amended Manmar-2 to meet the High Street for shops and buses.

I walked this route from Mansfield Woodhouse. The start is from the station car park, across the footbridge and along platform 2/3. From the station exit a footpath leads to Oxclose Lane. From here the route passes along quiet residential streets to reach open country. At Northfield the route track is inaccurate. We must cross under the railway and follow the obvious path down to the river bridge and up to Littlewood farm. From here a small rough path leads down to the railway level crossing. There are steel stiles to cross here. From the crossing, a path heads parallel with the railway on firm surfaces. The path is obvious, but not quite where the slow ways route track says it should be. At the obvious gravelled track, turn away from the railway towards Sookholme. The track emerges onto a metalled road at Sookholme. There are wide verges but no footway. Shortly we turn off again (still on tarmac) past the Sookholme church and head back out into countryside. The tarmac gives way to a rough track. Approaching Market Warsop, we are on quiet residential streets.
