21 Feb 2023Not much to add, an easy urban route well documented in previous reviews. I'm reserving 5 stars for special routes, though I'd give certainly give my day walking with everyone 5 stars :).

20 Feb 2023I walked this as part of the group so I don't need to duplicate what has been said. A Slow Way that achieves being direct and a wonderful tour with many points of interest along the way. Well done Mary and thanks for the commentary along the way.

19 Feb 2023 (edited 20 Feb 2023)The route left Levenshulme through residential streets, past some faded glorious Victorian housing and an Art Deco former factory, and the colourful Longsight Market. (There were some bollards at Park Grove in Levenshulme which would restrict the width of the route.)
Passing the Victoria Baths (subject of a TV Restoration programme) was a treat. There was a kissing gate into the park just north of the baths, but this could be avoided by going around the park at no extra distance. We also passed several other interesting buildings, following fairly quiet roads to the east of Oxford Road and Manchester University.
The route then wove underneath the Mancunian Way and past what I knew as UMIST. We also walked close to the Alan Turing statue, the famous Canal Street, and fairly near to the Chinatown Arch, before reaching St Peter’s Square at the end of the route.
A route full of interest, without too much traffic for such an urban route.

19 Feb 2023A direct, safe, interest rich and enjoyable walk. Easy to follow. It's unsurprisingly mostly pavement and doesn't need boots. Lots of places to stop and links to public transport. Full marks.

19 Feb 2023 (edited 20 Feb 2023)Walked from Levenshulme to Manchester as a group. A very enjoyable direct and interesting walk.
Leaving the meeting point at Levenshulme station, we go a short distance west along Albert Road then turn right up Buckhurst Road. We go left then right onto Central Avenue, then take the path half right and left to reach Slade Lane, where we turn right, cross and turn half left along Hamilton Road, which we follow to Dickenson Road. We cross and continue up St Johns Road, passing the market on the right.
At Stockport Road we go straight on/left then left along Plymouth Grove and left again onto Richmond Grove, then straight on past the Victoria Baths on Hathersage Road. We turn right onto Carmoor Road then right along the near edge of Swinton Grove Park, then left through the park to reach Swinton Grove and Elizabeth Gaskell's house, where we go right a short distance then left onto Plymouth Grove.
Just beyond the rather impressive Plymouth Grove building we use the island to help cross the road and go straight on into a small park. We go straight on up Kincardine Road and where it starts to bend left by Gartside Gardens we go half right through the park. A few twists and turns take us to the underpass under the A57(M) Mancunian Way, beyond which we go right through another underpass that leads to Sackville Street where we go left.
The short detour into the park allows us to pass the Alan Turing statue, then we pass the Rochdale Canal (not a pretty sight!) and go straight on to Portland Street, where we go left then right up Princess Street (there are pelican crossings at all of the junctions). This leads us to St Peters Square, where we turn left beyond the tram lines to reach the meeting point/.
