27 Jul 2023I regularly run this route but head west over Long Knoll just to the south of Maiden Bradley. The most Northerly 800m of this route is on a well used B road (national speed limit) with no footpath - this is why I put three stars. However, visibility is good (no blind corners etc), hi-vis recommended for this section.
The rest of the route is lovely, and useable all year round (flinty farm tracks or well drained chalky sheep field).
From Mere, follow the waymarked Mid Wilts Way up onto the Downs. Continue across the tarmac byway through the five bar gates and keep going NNW through the sheep field. Go through the pedestrian (narrow) gate and follow the farm track WNW (left) down the hill and through Rodmead Farm (I have found the farmer to be friendly if you are respectful). The farm track turns into a tarmac drive which continues onto the B3092 and into Maiden Bradley.
