Description

I have just walked this workable route for walking between Machynlleth and Carno. It's inspired by Hugh's Maccar Two. It avoids dangerous sections of road walking, including on the B4518.

It's a challenging route. It's long, hilly and has at least one (maybe two) stream crossings. At least one of which requires getting wet feet. The other is a decision between dodgy footbridge and getting wet feet.

Surveys

We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.

Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

Loved walking this. It was really rainy and tough going at times, but the views were great and I enjoyed walking through the windfarm at Carno. Lots of walking on lanes, but this was welcome and there were few cars.

There's a choice between a dodgy footbridge or a stream crossing. We went for the footbridge and felt fine doing that. The stream was fast and deep at the time, but I would have been fine doing that too.

There was another smaller stream to cross too. I just took off my boots and crossed with no bother.

I'd certainly recommend this route, but for people who are used to the routes level of elevation, distance and remoteness.

There is so much to love about this route, but it's challenging too. There are at least two stream/river crossings (you will get wet feet), hills to climb and no places to pick up supplies along the way... but I'd 100% walk it again!

I've given it just two stars because of those wet crossings.

I'm sure there will be other ways to go that avoid them.
