Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

10 Oct 2023Walked Bollington-Macclesfield direction in October. Easy walking but quite urban - particularly at the Macclesfield end, where it follows a major road for a period. The section on The Middlewood Way is wheel-friendly but accessing/exiting it at the Bollington end via the route shown on the gpx involves a stepped path. Wheelchair users could consider accessing/exiting the Middlewood Way via the car park at Clough Bank just past Grimshaw Lane - easy access to/from Bollington village from there.
Another route option (maybe not as wheel-friendly but more picturesque) would be to rejoin the Macclesfield Canal towpath via Clarence Road (where PoyBol1 route ends) and continuing towards Macclesfield before heading down to Macclesfield Station (the end of this section) just after passing under the A537 at the Puss in Boots Inn.

06 Aug 2021A lovely wild walk following an old railway line. It is a shared route with cyclists, joggers, walkers. It's accessibility and flat gradient make it popular on sunny weekends. A great alternative to the busy duel carriageway and enjoy the journey from Macc to Boll at a leisurely pace.

18 Jun 2021This follows the Middlewood Way, a reused railway line, creating a lovely path off the main road for walkers and cyclists. Accessible, as it is designed with cyclists in mind.
