05 Apr 2023I felt it was important to have a viable route, but unfortunately it is very road-based, albeit with some very nice housing occasionally. However, all the busier roads have pavements, although often relatively narrow (about 1 metre), and there are also some very quiet country roads without pavements. The only positively nice sections were Green Drive (between Saltcotes and Lytham Hall) and the off-road sections of the prom between Lytham and St Annes. Some of the quiet country roads were also quite pleasant, but it was a long route to be entirely hard-surfaced.
The Fylde is a very difficult area for walking because the ground is so wet. Just look at all the drainage channels, small ponds, and old windmills. Also, where there are field and other footpaths, as well as being likely to be wet, they are often poorly maintained.
