Crossing the road at OS Grid Ref: SD 36084 30450 at Higher Ballam Bridge was not particularly easy. From here the next 10% of the route was along a very quiet and pleasant single-track road past Brady’s Farm. From here the remaining 45% of the route was along a relatively busy B road....

Walk this routeSome of the quiet country roads were also quite pleasant, but it was a long route to be entirely hard-surfaced....

Walk this routeA friendly groundsman from the park told me that the park was not a public right of way, and that the actual footpath was frequently very deeply flooded....

We started at Blackpool North train station then headed downhill along the route towards the sea front. After a couple of miles the route gently curves in front of the main tram station and then back towards St Annes....

The plotted route then follows the road rather than the beach or the dunes, which makes it easier for wheels, although there is hard surfacing available around Fairhaven Lake closer to the beach. The route heads inland along a paved main road, then up some steps onto the first of two tidal-defence embankments, with a boatyard between them....

Even along the smaller road into St Annes, the sea view blocked by dunes, until the pier is reached. You could also walk on top of the dunes, but the plotted BlaLyt One route is as described here....

Stearsb added Lytkir three, a new walk from Lytham St Anne's to Kirkham
Walk this routeThis is a walk of two halves, from Freckelton to Lytham is a bit of a slog along the main road, and from Lytham to St Annes it is excellent. Walking the route I was struck by the number of busses that passed me so if you’re not thrilled by such a long walk along a main road then a bus to Lytham could be an option. The footpaths were excellent, and there were plenty of road crossings (puffin). The route moves away from the main road in 2 places. It follows good foopaths to give interesting views over the Ribble estuary. Both paths require the use of steps up and down. The first loop also brings you into close proximity to cows. Cows graze in the area and do walk on the narrow earth bank the footpath follows....

By retracing my steps to Huck lane I was able to complete the walk following a different route. The footpath continues to a track (Huck lane) and then to the footpath to Great Carr side farm....

This very flat walk can more or less be completed along the sands with minimal time spent on the roads. The sands and dunes are easy to walk on and of course there are several opportunities for an ice cream or cup of tea....

The walk is very flat and very popular with walkers and dog walkers and so can be very busy until you get beyond the prom. At this point you will spend more time walking along a very busy road through Warton and onto Freckleton....
