Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

05 Feb 2022I do this route occasionally. It is all on tarmac and therefore not exciting. It can get busy with cyclists and dog-walkers, especially at weekends. It passes through some lovely countryside and has several more interesting, easy diversions/add-ons near Castle Semple. There is easy access to railway stations at each end (Note: check carefully as only a minority of through-trains stop at Lochwinnoch). The cycleway continues SW to Kilbirnie and NE to Paisley and Glasgow.

31 Dec 2021Review of SlowWays Route Lohjoh1 (Lochwinnoch—Johnstone)
I walked this route (in the reverse direction) on a damp day between Christmas and New Year 2021. It is easy to follow and on an excellent walking/cycling surface. The first part of the route is through the centre of Johnstone with its town square and prominent bandstand. The route then dips downhill to cross the Black Cart Water before turning off the main road onto the National Cycle Network Route 7 for the remainder of the journey. Some interesting landmarks along the way include the bridge over the busy A737, the village of Kilbarchan, Kenmure Hill Temple, Castle Semple Collegiate Church and Castle Semple Visitor Centre. A short stretch of pavement leads to Lochwinnoch’s Harvey Square and the end of the route. This is an interesting route although some long stretches are through cuttings with limited views. However it provides an easy, direct route that feels safe and has no obvious drawbacks.
