Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

07 Apr 2024This is a good route, the only issue is the short section the B4343 near Cors Caron. This is quite a fast road without a pavement. There's an alternative option which I've just added to the OpenStreetMap basemap, turning north at the farm at SN 69345 61991 (marked Treflyn on the OS map) and joining the cycle path just north of Ty'n-y-llyn.
Otherwise, most of the route follows the well signposted Ystwyth Trail, following the route of the old Aberystwyth-Carmarthen railway line, so it's fairly flat, though quite muddy all the way along. There's a section north of Tynygraig where the path deviates from the old line which is exceedingly muddy and requires fording a steam. We got wet feet in March after a very wet winter, but it wasn't impossible, so it's likely to be fine at other times of the year. There's no good alternative that I know of — we tried walking the road following the cycle route on the way back, but that's very fast and winding with lots of blind bends — not to be recommended!.
