Description
This is a long, challenging but beautiful route. I split the route into two and walked it over different days. I used Llanbister Road Station as a mid point - you can get the train from either Llandod or Knighton. I have stuck to either Heart of Wales Trail or Glyndwrs Way as they are well marked and maintained routes and less likely to get the typical access issues encountered through Mid Wales. This is fantastic countryside with rolling hills, wide valleys and quiet walking. On top of the hills above the valleys there are some amazing long range views. Although Heart of Wales trail uses country lanes there is hardly any traffic and considering the distance gives a break from some of the more muddy sections. St Michael's Church just outside Llandod is definitely worth a visit along with the river and hill, makes a good picnic spot. Although there is a small section of A road near Pen-y-bont it is relatively short and you can walk on the moor land next to the road quite easily. If you are into bird spotting then there are a ton of Buzzards and Kites along the way. For the more adventurous there is an overnight camping spot at Coco's Farm Wild Camp - incredibly basic amenities but great views. There's a Quaker meeting house where they allow you to go into the garden and there's a good view from there. The section from Llanbister Road Station to Knighton is definitely the best section with some stunning views down the valleys. My only word of warning if using Heart Of Wales train service is that it can be cancelled at a moments notice

Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
