Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.

01 Sep 2025Llandridod Wells to Hundred House
This route went smoothly without any drama in the first 3km and final 5km. I have to fail it, though, because it is not always accurate and one brook crossing is simply missing.
The first inaccuracy is approx. 3km from Llandridod Wells. The route suggests a shortcut to Brynhir farm but found it overgrown or otherwise impassable. I'd suggest walking along a well maintained footpath down towards The Three Wells and turn left only when the footpath joins a paved road.
I also didn't find a way between farm buildings at Brynhir farm so I walked around it through the sheep pen (photo #4).
The next in my opinion critical flaw of this route is to cross the Howey brook where there is no bridge and a fence with a barbed wire. I was lucky not to tear off my trousers on it. The water levels were not high on the day but I'm sure it could be riskier after a couple of rainy days.
Most stiles on the route could be opened with more or less ingenuity but I had to climb over a gate right before the route joined a paved road at Rhogo (photo #5 and #6).
Public transport at Hundred House is currently limited to one service on Mondays. The bus stop is close to the post office and a parking area (photo #8).

06 Jul 2025We walked this route from Hundred House to Llandrindod. It was a very hot summer's day, and we were glad we took plenty of water as there is nowhere en route to replenish supplies.
Navigation was very straightforward up and over Rhogo, but crossing Howey Brook was difficult as the landowner had put barbed wire across the gate that was supposed to give access to the adjoining field. We eventually found a way of getting over the fence, which was a relief as the alternative was a very substantial detour.
The only other issue we had was entering the woods after crossing the minor road north of Brynhir, where again the path was blocked. We used an alternative public footpath a little to the west of the Slow Ways route, which rejoined it just east of Llwynceubren.
These were relatively minor inconveniences, and overall we thoroughly enjoyed the walk. The views were magnificent, particularly on top of Rhogo.
