Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

13 Apr 2023 (edited 18 Sep 2023)I walked this route in two parts - in April 2023, between Flash and Leek (15 km of the total 24 km) and the rest in August, between Buxton and Flash. I originally gave it 4 stars but feel I have to downgrade it to 2 stars following the completion.
The route from Buxton starts easy although it is not particularly pretty. Crossing through the HSE Science and Research Centre's land one passes somewhat sinister warnings about hazardous activities and the need to keep to the designated footpaths. After crossing Dalehead Lane, however, it all changes. The foothpath is difficult to find and crosses boggy areas through very long and wet grass (see photos). It's a challenge and I'd advise an app with the route downloaded, proper waterproof boots and a pair of poles to feel your way.
It gets easier once you cross A53 and a lot more picturesque. However, it is difficult in places: there are steep steps from a road below Flash, areas of stony scramble and the section between Flash and Ramshaw Rocks is generally very boggy.
From the vicinity of the Ramshaws onto Leek the route is much easier, although there are a LOT of stiles.
You need to be reasonably fit to do this route.
The views between Flash and Leek are amazing though, and there are very view people on the route. I'd happily walk it again, this time from Flash only, and with a pair of walking poles to feel my way though the bogs.
