Surveys
We are working to build-up a picture of what routes look like. To do that we are asking volunteers to survey routes so that we can communicate features, obstacles and challenges that may make a route desirable or not.
Slow Ways surveyors are asked to complete some basic online training, but they are not vetted. If you are dependent on the survey information being correct in order to complete a route, we recommend that you think critically about the information provided. You may also wish to wait until more than one survey has been completed.
Help people know more about this route by volunteering to submit a survey.

07 Aug 2024Another fun day walking along low moorland. Some bog and bushwhacking, but this was all forgotten with a lovely swim swim at Lazonby.

06 Aug 2024This was another beautiful walk through low moorland with good views of the Pennines, although quite hard going at points as the path is not always clear and some bush-wacking had to happen. We did this walk in good summer weather and it was still quite boggy, it did seem as if some of the walk between Milburn and Blencarn might become unwalkable in winter as there were parts of the path completely submerged in water and some detours required. That said, overall the walk was fun and we ended it with a beautiful swim near Lazonby. We ate in Kirkoswald and had some of the best food of our trip there! Definitely worth visiting the pubs there as the people are friendly and the atmosphere lovely.

06 Aug 2024Through farmland walking along the base of the Pennines. The walk was one of the less pretty sections of the Ripon to Carlisle route we walked. Through some large farmland where the route at points wasn’t very well sign posted and in a couple places we had to make minor detours as the path became so overgrown, however these didn’t effect the route too much. As you come into Lazonby there is a great swimming spot in the River Eden which was much need after this long route. There is a ladder into and out if the river, however it is quick flowing so be mindful of the current. We jumped in up stream and got swept back onto the ladder.
