10 Apr 2024 (edited 11 Apr 2024)Walked from Langold to Bircotes/Harworth. I agree with Stephen that this route is unexciting and that the road section between Oldcotes and Styrrup requires care, but there are no footpaths that could offer anything better or avoid the problem section. The only footpath that could be used is the short corner cutter behind the church in Oldcotes.
The route is simple - just follow the most direct roads (so turning right into Oldcotes Main Street). There are pavements all the way apart from the section between the edge of Oldcotes and the junction at the west end of Styrrup. This is moderately busy, but I didn't feel unsafe. Most of it has good sight lines and wide but uneven verges, and the traffic seemed fairly considerate, but the bends over the hill on the south side of Styrrup are narrower with unwalkable steep verges and need more care (picture 7). Beyond Styrrup the pavement on the left/north side continues into Harworth, so this section is completely safe if rather dull.

20 Dec 2023I walked this route from Bircotes. Leaving the hub along Scrooby Road we pass into Harworth - a more traditional settlement. Once we get to the end of Styrrup the pavement ends. We are alongside a quite busy narrow road. There is a verge to escape onto for most of the section. Once we get to Oldcotes (something of a relief) there is a pavement all the way to Langold hub. This is functional, if you need to get between Langold and Bircotes it will do. It is as straight as possible and joins the hubs, but it is not pleasant or scenic. There are no alternatives on rights-of-way.
