Many Slow Ways have several route options. Some will be better than others, or good for different reasons.
Our goal is for each Slow Way to have at least one route that is verified and surveyed. To be verified – and get its snail badge – a route needs at least three positive reviews.

Where the lane turns right, the pavement ends but a path has been worn in the verge to the left. Beyond the woods, we follow the road right across the river Ryton and past a golf course, then up a hill and across to the A638. We follow Lound Low Road out of the village then take the signposted bridleway right. Here it is quicker to follow the well trodden path along the river Idle than to stay on the right of way path just north of Belmoor Lake....

We turn right, crossing the wide but quiet school access road to find the path that cuts the corner across the green space ahead, then follow Shrewsbury Road and Scrooby Road to the meeting point....

Started walking this from Bircotes to Retford, but was forced to abandon it at Bishopsfield Farm by 2 locals in a car who told me I wasn't on a footpath. Since I couldn't see any clear evidence on the map that they were wrong, I had to retreat back to Snape Lane and use the pavement of the A638 Great North Road to get into Ranskill. I will upload a new route that does this tomorrow, and that will use a mpre direct route into Retford - the canal detour seems unnecessary....

I haven't walked this one but I can't see any evidence that a right of way or permissive path exists between Ashbrook Grove and the A638. I suspect the only walkable routes are along the pavement of Tickhill Road or a longer detour via the junction north of Scrooby....
Hugh Hudson
An easy and direct route, the only difficulties being some slightly muddy field paths and one stile....
Hugh Hudson
I agree with Stephen that this route is unexciting and that the road section between Oldcotes and Styrrup requires care, but there are no footpaths that could offer anything better or avoid the problem section....

Leaving the hub along Scrooby Road we pass into Harworth - a more traditional settlement....

The route joins the canal bank a short distance from the town centre, and then heads across the cemetery to North Road. A short residential road leads to the old A1 (Gt North Road) - where the Blue Bell PH provides refreshment....
