What a great walk!
Starting at Lakeside where there is an Aquarium, café and hotel.
The route takes you to the left of the Lakeside Hotel on road side before branching off into countryside. Part of the route is now benefiting from a new cycle path with a few gates.
Onwards it heads along tree sheltered pathways and alongside the lake.
Beautiful views of the lake and fells.
Some time further on you will approach the ferry which takes you across the lake towards Bowness.
A short walk takes you into Bowness where there are ample shops and a good bus network.

16 Sep 2022 Summer

I walked from Bowness. The walk to the ferry terminal was very pleasant, past lots of boats and along some off-road tarmacked paths. The toilets in Bowness cost 50p but there are free toilets at both ferry terminals. The cable ferry is fun, frequent and only costs £1 on foot. Information here https://cumbria.gov.uk/roads-transport/highways-pavements/windermereferry.asp. It sometimes doesn’t run due to weather or mechanical issues, so it’s worth checking.
On reaching the western side, the route follows the lovely lake, sometimes on quiet roads, and sometimes on gorgeous footpaths next to the lake or through woods. There are many beautiful views across the Lake Windermere.
The last quarter of the route is along a slightly busier road, with no footpath or verge. It has 30mph traffic signs along it, and warnings to drivers that there may be pedestrians. I found the traffic (in mid-September) to be very considerate. However there are a lot of bends, and you have to keep swapping sides to be as visible as possible. This section also passes Stott Park Bobbin Mill which is an interesting place to visit.
I was tempted to drop a star because of this road section, but as far as I can tell, there is very little alternative, the land owners around here are very exclusive; and overall the route is gorgeous!.
