31 May 2023Walked the route (Knutsford to Wilmslow) on 30/5/23 in very good weather. About 3.5 hours walking time, 20k steps, flat nearly all the way. Whilst the train stations are the start and end point there is an excellent bus service (number 88) between both towns which is quick and good value (£2 capped fare in play when I used it to get from Wilmslow to Knutsford to then start the walk).
Knutsford is a particularly pleasant place to be and I think the optimal route would be Wilmslow to Knutsford such that you can take advantage of the many nice places to get a drink / bite to eat at the end of the walk.
The route is fairly obvious with limited scope to go wrong (or at least for too long as there are many reference points including roads, buildings etc) although I did need live maps on the Longridge to Pavement Lane section (at the Knutsford end of the walk) to keep to the suggested route as there are multiple paths to choose from. Fortunately the 4G signal was strong throughout this section.
Some of the narrower paths had some overgrowth - particularly nettles - but even with shorts on wasn't too much of a problem. Just need to keep an eye out for the paths and the entry points with some of the overgrowth (as per one of the pictures).
Highlights of the walk included - various planes coming in to land at Manchester Airport, the pubs on Mill Lane in Mobberley (Bull's Head provided an excellent lunch), the Alpacas on Paddock Hill and the lovely Cheshire countryside.
I recommend this walk.
